Week 168 (North Patio Steps)

In construction photos by manifold_admin

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve posted any progress photos, mainly because most of our construction work is again invisible: caulking, sealing, repainting, etc.  However, one aspect of the project has been visible, and is now completed: the steps that connect the North Patio with the path that circles property.  Three weeks ago, our West and North Patios met up for the first time, and work began on making the foundation for the steps.  The transformation has been from this:

After a few weeks of curing in the open air, this concrete will be sealed just like the rest of the patio and everything will match.

The drain grates have also found their way into position and are looking nice:

Out on the West Patio some templates have been drawn for the steel posts that will support our Pergola.  Here is one of the templates showing where the post will be attached to the concrete:

We have since determined how the connection will be made, and will show that when it is implemented.

Since our last posting, another bit of the construction puzzle was completed off-site.  Six gobos, two semi-glazed and four unglazed, were delivered.  Here’s one gobo sitting by itself in Booth A:

As you can see, it’s basically a 6′ by 4′ RPG BAD panel on wheels,  Behind the BAD panel is 2″ of fabric-covered rigid fiberglass insulation.  In the above photo, the gobo is diffusive on the front and absorbtive at the back.  In this photo you can see the absorbtive side:

While these gobos are fairly substantial, they are also nicely scaled, fitting properly into corners in the Music Room:

Look how nicely they fit under the soffits!

The half-glazed gobos present an interesting alternative:

I’ll close with this photo showing the waterproofing applied to the North Wall (not to mention the beautiful way in which the steps transcend the wall):

More news as it happens…
