Hindugrass will be recording next week, and they are kicking off their session with a performance on Friday night, April 12th at 8pm. If you have always wanted to be a fly on the wall of a real recording session, the band is inviting a very limited number of people to be their guests in the studio via this Eventbrite link.
Why perform before recording? Béla Fleck answers that question in this video from last year:[vimeo w=856&h=480 57675022]
Basically, the performance acts as an authentic reference point to the music that is the conversation with the audience. The studio is a magical place where anything is possible, and sometimes too many possibilities can make one lose the essence of the authentic. By capturing a performance before applying the studio magic, we establish a guide star, a direction and purpose for our use of magic. We do not get seduced into applying magic for magic’s sake.
Hindugrass is offering two levels of tickets, one level for the performance, and one level for “something more”. We are working out just what that “something more” should be, but if you are game to go in at the higher level, I can assure you that it will be more than worth the step-up in cost–if that step-up is something you can afford.
Here’s a question you can help us answer: should we live-stream the event over the internet? If so, what price, if any, would you be willing to pay? Please let us know!
We look forward to possibly seeing you there (physically or virtually).
